Three weeks after Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu vowed to improve energy generation, The Nation's investigation revealed that energy production has increased by 373MW.
He had pledged on March 28, 2026, to improve the generation from the record of 3,951MW.
However, our Abuja correspondent discovered from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) data that this occurred exactly 21 days after the vow. The total energy generated in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) was 103,795.60 MWh (4,324.79MW) on April 19, 2026.
On the day under review, NISO reported that the total energy sent out to the 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) was 102,649.74 MWh (an average of 4,277.07MW).
Meanwhile, The Nation also yesterday, the 24-hour Grid Performance Dashboard from NISO showed that at 16:00 hours, only 15 Generation companies (GenCos) out of the 32 connected to the national grid were operational.
According to the System Operator, the 15 plants reportedly generated 2,459MW at 16:00 hours.

From the DisCos load profile data as at 20/04/2026 at 16:03 hours, The Nation learnt that total energy sent out to the 11 DisCos was 3,378MW.
Besides the NISO, revealed that the energy was allocated to the DisCos as follows: Abuja DisCo 584MW, Benin DisCo 247MW, EKO DisCo 493MW, Enugu DisCo 236MW, Ibadan DisCo 365MW, Ikeja DisCo 578MW, Jos DisCO 172MW, Kaduna DisCo 193MW, Kano DisCo 206MW, Port Harcourt DisCo 213MW and Yola DisCo 91MW.
Gas has become a major constraint on energy generation, as most gas suppliers have directed the product for export because of the sector's N6 trillion debt.
According to Adelabu, a portion of the debt is owed to gas suppliers, leading to the shutdown of more than 50 percent of the GenCos connected to the national grid. down operations.
The Minister's Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media RelationsMr. Bolaji Tunji had issued a statement last week. noting that his principal recently inaugurated a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee to ensure improved coordination, real-time monitoring, and sustained gas supply to generating companies.
The statement noted, “The committee is expected to address bottlenecks in gas delivery, enhance synergy between gas producers and power generation companies, and ultimately guarantee a more stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.“
