Eno gets kudos for education reforms

Member representing Essien Udim Constituency, Ukpong Akpabio II, has lauded Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for his leadership and proactive approach to giving back to society, following his decision to lecture pro bono at Department of Business Development and Entrepreneurial Studies at Akwa Ibom State University.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the convocation, Prince Akpabio, who got a Master’s degree in Public Administration, described the governor’s decision as one whose impact on students and the department would be phenomenal.
Eno, as Visitor, had lauded Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oto-Abasi Akpan, for his innovative leadership, which led to establishment of seven new faculties, with approval of 60 academic programmes by National Universities Commission, one of which is Business Development and Entrepreneurial Studies.

At the convocation, Eno announced that he would teach a course pro bono in the department, to impart practical insights to help students understand the fundamentals and principles of business development, particularly in SMEs.
Akpabio said the governor’s initiative is what obtains in Ivy League institutions and one of the best ways students can learn firsthand from accomplished professionals in their fields.
He added that Eno’s experience as a successful entrepreneur would benefit students, the department, and university.
The lawmaker also lauded achievments in the sector, including construction of model schools, increased bursary, more allowances for NYSC members of Akwa Ibom origin, and support for schools.
He further lauded Eno’s plan to build quarters for lecturers at AKSU, saying it will boost productivity and create a more conducive environment. He called on stakeholders to support the governor’s efforts to reposition AKSU and education towards 2027 and beyond.
