Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has announced his decision to align his governorship aspiration with the consensus position of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

Lemo said in a statement the decision followed “deep reflection and wide consultations” with party leaders and stakeholders, noting the move was made in the interest of unity and progress in the party.

Describing the step as a strategic alignment rather than a withdrawal from public service, he expressed confidence in the party leadership’s choice of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, as the consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.

“This is not a retreat from service. It is a deliberate, strategic alignment for the greater good,” Lemo said.

An APC chieftain and a security expert, Dr. Adejare Adegbenro, has praised the emergence of Yayi as the consensus governorship candidate for APC in Ogun State.

He described the choice as a popular move destined to consolidate the progress of the state.

A pressure group, the Renaissance Movement (RM), has supported the choice of Yayi.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Prince Remi Adefulu, the group said it was not surprised by the decision, given the intimidating credentials of the Ogun West senator.

Adegbenro carries a weighty political lineage. He is the maternal grandson of Pa Alfred Rewane, the late financier of National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), and the paternal grandson of Dauda Adegbenro, former premier of the defunct Western Region.

As the first and only Otunbalaje of Owu Kingdom, Adegbenro expressed pride about his association with Senator Adeola, noting his ideals mirrored the visionary leadership of his late grandfathers.

He hailed APC under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring the consensus meeting was conducted without rancour or disagreement.

Lauding Yayi as the ideal successor, Adegbenro said his legislative experience provided an advantage for leading Ogun State.

He said he believed with Senator Adeola at the helm, the future of the state would be marked by growth and prosperity for citizens.
