Former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Alhaji Abbati Abdulhameed, has declared intention to contest for the Adamawa Central senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During an interactive session with reporters in Yola, Abbati said the central Adamawa Zone, which is the foremost constituency comprising Yola North, Yola South, Fufore, Girei, Song, Gombi and Hong local government areas, has not had its fair share of development opportunities from the Federal Government.
He said he is seeking to be senator to provide people-oriented representation at the National Assembly and bridge existing gaps as an active senator who will always be on the lookout for what he can attain for the people.
“I am not looking to go to Abuja to warm a seat. I am going there to work, to legislate, to advocate, to negotiate, to attract projects and to make the federal government more visible in the daily lives of our people,” he declared.

He contended that under the APC-led Federal Government, Adamawa Central can attract meaningful development through effective engagement with federal ministries, departments, and agencies, citing initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Ministry of Livestock Development as examples of federal opportunities that focused representation can harness for youth empowerment, livestock development, dairy value chains, pasture management, and conflict reduction.
Born in Jimeta, in Yola North LGA, and holding a BSc in Agriculture and Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Abbati is profiled to have dedicated decades of his life to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector through innovative finance, strategic policy, and sustainable development.
He did much of this between 2015 and 2023 while at the helm in NIRSAL Plc, a CBN subsidiary designed to de-risk the agricultural value chain, making it more attractive for commercial banks to provide loans to agribusinesses.
