In line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointees with political ambition in the 2027 elections to quit by March 31, a former Oyo State Deputy Governor Rauf Olaniyan has thrown in the towel.
Chairman, Governing Council of Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo said he left to enable him join the race for the state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.
Olaniyan was Governor Seyi Makinde’s first term deputy, who was impeached by the House of Assembly. He subsequently joined the APC.

Olaniyan, in his March 23 letter to the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), said : “I write to formally tender my resignation from my appointment as Chairman, Governing Council of Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo with effect from 23rd March, 2026.
“This decision is taken in compliance with the directive requiring political appointees and public office holders with political aspirations ahead of the forthcoming 2027 General Election in Nigeria, particularly in preparation for participation in the party primary elections, as stipulated in the 2026 Electoral Act.
“I consider it a great privilege given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to have served in this capacity and contributed, within my modest ability to the growth and development of the institution during my tenure. I remain grateful for the confidence reposed in me through this appointment…”
Olaniyan also thanked the management, staff and students of the college for their cooperation during his tenure.
