Experts and decision-makers from both the public and private sectors will next week Tuesday converge in Abeokuta, Ogun State to discuss engineering and planning could help to enhance national security.

The discussion at the 12th Waheed Kadiri Lecture Series being organised by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Ogun State Chapter, will focus on the topic: Designing safer Nigeria: Engineering, planning and the fight against insecurity. The event is scheduled for 11am at Ogun Pensioners Hall, opposite Waheed Kadiri House, NITP Ogun State Secretariat off Moshood Abiola Way, Ijeun Lukosi, Abeokuta.

Vice Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Professor Jeremiah Ojediran, a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, is the guest speaker and will bring extensive experience in academia and practice to bear on the topic.

Chairman, 12th Waheed Kadiri Lecture Organising Committee, Tpl Oladunjoye Arowosegbe said the choice of topic for the lecture series was part of the institute’s contributions towards the development of the country.

He noted that the core objective of planning is to ensure harmonious living environment where individuals could attain self fulfilment in a sustainable way, thus the need to focus on insecurity, which has remained a major concern nationwide.

The NITP Waheed Lecture Series honours the achievements of Africa’s foremost planner, Waheed Kadiri, Principal Partner at  Kadiri Associates Limited and former president of Nigerian Institution of Town Planners, Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) and former Chairman, African Planning Association. He was also a two-term Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. The annual lecture coincides with his birthday and brings together professionals and dignitaries from far and wide in a joyous atmosphere of professional excellence and community service.
