The Federal Government has been urged to extend the opportunities available under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to academic staff members of private universities.
Such opportunities include sponsorship of conferences, postgraduate training as well as project execution in public universities.
The Vice Chancellor, Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, Prof. Clement Kolawole, made the case at the institution’s fourth convocation last weekend where 212 students graduated.

Kolawole said the beneficiaries of the TETFUND projects and programmes are Nigerians, adding that they deserved the best the country could offer them without discrimination.
Earlier, he made a similar case on student loans fund, also known as National Education Loans Fund (NELFUND), asking the government to ensure Nigerian students of private universities should enjoy it.
He announced the introduction of four new programmes: cyber security, biochemistry, tourism and hospitality manpower.

He thanked the partners and sponsors of the institution’s projects.
At the event entitled, “Convoking a galaxy of stars: Empowered to make global impact”, the university’s Chancellor, Prince Samuel Adedoyin, said: “Today’s ceremony is the beginning of greater things to come for you in the immediate future. I, therefore, would like to challenge you to continue to work harder, trusting God and believing in your potential. Please, remain focused, work harder, refuse to be defeated and keep your hands steadily on the goals of your ambition. I look forward to your rising to the challenge of life and becoming victorious.”
The business mogul and nonagenarian said: “Have a vision for your journey ahead. The future belongs to keen learners - embrace curiosity, stay adaptable, and keep pushing boundaries. Our society needs problem-solvers and change agents: use your skills to tackle challenges, spark innovation and create impact. Have empathy, serve with humility, and lead with the heart.”

Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the university, Deacon Adebowale Tade, praised the council, Senate, management and staff members of the institution for their hard work and contributions to the growth and development of the university.
He urged the graduates to find their purpose in life and make an impact, reminding them that their purpose is greater than their degrees.
The Pro Chancellor/Chairman, Governing Council of the university, Pastor S. O. Olatunji, added: “Remember knowledge is a trust. Be agents of positive change, shining God’s light in your spheres of influence. Let integrity, compassion, and excellence guide you. Be life-long learners, adapt to change, and serve others with love and diligence.”
One of the valedictorians from the Mass Communication Department, Adeyeye Ifeoluwa Oluwatofunmi, thanked her lecturers for their contributions to her success.
She urged her colleagues on the challenges ahead, saying they should not lose hope as nothing is difficult to the willing mind.

Her colleague, Tanimowo Emmanuel Oluwadarasimi, who spoke from the United States, hailed his teachers and the institution’s management for their care and training, saying that he wouldn’t have been where he is if not for the training he got from Trinity University.
A breakdown of the graduates show that 51 made first class, 61 second class upper division, 55 second class lower division, and four third class while12 diplomas.
Of the graduates, 101 came from Faculties of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, 64 from Basic and Applied Medical Sciences and 35 from Nursing Sciences.
The Centre for Addiction Centre and Behavioural Psychology produced 12.
Since inception, Trinity University has graduated 406 students.
