A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused opposition forces of deploying misinformation as a strategy to destabilise the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Nigerian ambassador alleged that the spread of false narratives was aimed at creating panic within government ranks, sowing discord, and weakening confidence in the party’s electoral prospects.

Fani-Kayode cited what he described as unfounded claims about the Governor of Nasarawa State working for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as an example of the alleged disinformation campaign.

According to him, such reports are part of a broader effort to create confusion and mistrust within the ruling party.

“It is clear that the strategy of the opposition is to spread fake news, knock our heads together, create dissension in our ranks and plant doubts in our minds about our ability to win,” he said.

Warning that the political environment is already heating up, Fani-Kayode urged members of the APC and supporters of Bola Tinubu to remain united and vigilant.

He called for stronger internal cohesion, stressing the need for party faithful to brace for what he described as a major political battle in 2027.

He also encouraged the mobilisation of younger party members, urging that “some of our youngest, brightest and most courageous youths” be brought to the forefront of political engagement.

Drawing on religious references, the APC chieftain expressed confidence that the ruling party would overcome opposition efforts, insisting that alleged plots against the government would ultimately fail.

He maintained that despite what he termed collaboration between internal and external actors to destabilise the country, the administration would prevail and continue its agenda.

Fani-Kayode concluded by expressing optimism about President Tinubu’s chances in the next election cycle, predicting victory at the polls.

He emphasised that unity, preparation, and resilience would be key to securing success, adding that Nigeria would continue on a path of progress under the current leadership.
