The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, on Sunday morning, attributed the delay in announcing the result to challenges encountered in two wards.

The affected wards are Central and Kabi, where collation of results is still ongoing. Results from eight of the ten wards have already been declared.

Speaking to our correspondent at the Kuje office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dambo explained that the delay resulted from a logistical error by collation officers.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process,” he said. “I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward.”

Results from the other five area councils have already been announced, leaving Kuje as the only outstanding council.

Presently, security has been tightened in and around the INEC office in Kuje to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Party agents, journalists, and security personnel are on the ground awaiting the formal declaration of the winner by the Kuje Area Council Returning Officer, Professor Nkiruka Odoh.
