The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving a delegation of AGFAN, led by its President, Abdullahi Muhammad Isa.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office (GSO), Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the SGF underscored the strategic importance of groundnut production to Nigeria’s economic trajectory, describing it as both a staple food and a critical driver of national development.

He recalled the historic significance of the famous groundnut pyramids in Northern Nigeria, noting that they contributed substantially to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the 1940s and 1950s and even supported early oil exploration efforts.

In a statement issued by the Head of Information and Public Relations in the office of the SGF, Chris Ugwuegbulam, Akume also commended the association for its support of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging it to mobilise its members across the 36 states to back the President’s re-election bid in 2027.

He assured that the Federal Government would continue to support AGFAN and the broader agricultural sector to enhance food security and economic development nationwide.

Earlier, Isa reiterated the association’s readiness to operate within a sustainable framework, assuring that any government support, whether in the form of seedlings, fertilisers, or equipment, would translate into higher productivity, improved economic returns, and stronger contributions to national growth.

He stressed that mechanisation remains vital to achieving large-scale agricultural output, improving farmers’ access to modern tools, and positioning Nigeria competitively in the global export market.

The AGFAN President also reaffirmed the association’s backing of the All Progressives Congress and the Tinubu administration, pledging to mobilise its nationwide membership base toward ensuring electoral success in the 2027 general elections.

“We have collectively taken a position to support the APC as the platform that reflects our aspirations and offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development. Our members are fully mobilised and committed to this course,” he said.
