The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to driving quality basic education and skill-based learning in such a way that guaranteed total reforms in the educational sector of the country.

The government has also said it is modernising the school curriculum to integrate digital skills and emerging technologies, ensuring that learners acquire relevant competencies from the foundational level.

“At the same time, we are shifting toward practical, skills-based learning that emphasises critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-life application of knowledge,” Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad made this known in his welcome address at the 2026 Bootcamp organised by the Federal Ministry of Education held at Crispan Hotel Jos on Tuesday.

Themed, “Enhancing Access to Inclusive Education and Bridging the Gap for Out-of-School Children in Nigeria”, the minister said: “The Federal Ministry of Education is actively championing reforms aimed at improving quality at the foundational level—through curriculum strengthening, teacher professional development, deployment of digital learning tools, enhanced monitoring and evaluation systems, and targeted interventions to support learner retention and performance.”

She said, “This Bootcamp, therefore, provides a strategic platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and collaboration to collectively address the barriers preventing children not only from accessing education, but from acquiring relevant, high-quality learning that prepares them for lifelong success.”

The minister reaffirm that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu, the ministry remains fully committed to delivering inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. “In line with this commitment, we are implementing targeted interventions to expand access, strengthen alternative learning pathways, promote open schooling, and leverage digital platforms to reach underserved communities.

“Initiatives such as LUMINA 2030, EduRevamp, Community of Practice (CoP) and others are designed to tackle the out-of-school children challenge in a holistic and sustainable manner,” she said.

In his keynote address, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang noted that education remains the cornerstone of inclusive and equitable development, peace, and economic growth. “It is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, empowering communities, and shaping the future of our nation”.

He pointed out that despite the nation’s collective efforts, millions of Nigerian children remain out of school. “This situation poses serious implications for our national development, security, and social cohesion”

The governor added that the challenge of out-of-school children is not merely a statistic; it represents millions of dreams deferred, potentials untapped, and futures uncertain.
