Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has expressed satisfaction with his team’s composed performance following a hard-fought 1–0 win over Plateau United.

The Matchday 34 victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium lifted Rivers United to the top of the NPFL table with 58 points, opening a two-point lead over Rangers International FC.

Midfielder Wisdom Samuel scored the decisive goal early in the game, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Taofeek Otaniyi.

Reflecting on the performance, Finidi highlighted his side’s control and defensive discipline, despite limited scoring opportunities.

“We didn’t create many chances, but we took the one we had,” he said. “We controlled the game well and didn’t come under much pressure defensively.”

He acknowledged that the game lacked attacking fluency but praised the team’s overall balance.

“It wasn’t a game full of chances, but we stayed organized and managed it properly. I’m happy with the performance.”

The result further strengthens Rivers United’s title credentials as the league heads into its final stretch, with consistency proving key to their rise to the summit.

With four matches remaining, Rivers United will now focus on a crucial away clash against Kano Pillars as they aim to maintain their lead in a tightly contested title race.
