Vice President Kashim Shettima has confirmed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri automatically assumes the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State following his defection to the party.

The clarification came during a grand reception in Yola, where Fintiri was formally welcomed into the APC along with his supporters.

The announcement addressed ongoing speculation over whether Fintiri or the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, would lead the party in the state.

Shettima drew parallels with other states, noting that in Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum leads the party despite being the Vice President, and in Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang heads the APC locally even though the National Chairman hails from there.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu at the reception, Shettima praised Fintiri for his accomplishments, saying, “As we arrived in Yola earlier today, we were welcomed not only by the people but also by the worthy projects that you have put in place.”

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda handed Fintiri the party flag, describing him as a “working governor” and urging him to strengthen the APC in the state. The symbolic broom given to Fintiri was accompanied by a charge to sweep other party remnants into the APC.

Fintiri, who successfully persuaded former ADC governorship candidate Senator Abdulazeez Nyako to return to the APC on March 22, pledged to continue efforts to bring other notable political figures into the party.

The reception, held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, was attended by five APC governors led by Progressives Governors’ Forum Chairman Hope Uzodinma, two deputy governors, the Senate Deputy President representing the Senate President, APC National Executive Committee members, APC Vice Chairman for North East Mustapha Salihu, Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, and other newly inducted APC members
