A tragic fire incident has claimed the lives of two young siblings at their family residence on Olaribigbe Street, Zion Area, Ode-Aye, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The victims, six-year-old Queen Ohwo and four-year-old Everlyne Ohwo, were daughters of Mr and Mrs Peter Ohwo.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have resulted from negligence during cooking activities in the home.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, said the tragedy occurred on March 18, 2026.

He disclosed that police operatives visited the scene, where necessary documentation was carried out, while the severely burnt remains of the victims were evacuated to a health facility in Ode-Aye.

According to him, the parents, who were present at the scene, were left in deep shock.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Abayomi added that the Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been directed to secure the scene, obtain statements from witnesses, and work with the Federal Fire Service to establish the origin and extent of the blaze.

The command commiserated with the bereaved family and urged residents to exercise caution in handling fire and cooking appliances.

It also advised the public to observe basic safety measures, including avoiding unattended cooking, keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, and ensuring children are not left unsupervised around fire.
