A real estate firm, Lahrith Properties, has donated food items and other relief materials to inmates at the Ekiti State Correctional Centre as part of activities to mark the ongoing Ramadan.

The gesture, according to the firm, was aimed at extending compassion to inmates and reminding them that they are not forgotten by society during the holy month.

Leading a seven-member delegation to the facility in Ado-Ekiti, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Soliat Odunayo Salaudeen, said the visit was organised in the spirit of Ramadan to support inmates and encourage them.

She explained that the organisation, which will mark its second anniversary in April, considered it important to reach out to people who do not enjoy the same freedom as others in society.

Salaudeen said the delegation visited the custodial centre with relief materials as a token of love, expressing hope that the items would provide encouragement to the inmates.

“This is a very emotional moment for me because Lahrith Properties has been in existence for close to two years and by April it will be two years, Insha’Allah.

“This is the month of Ramadan and we are looking at appreciating people who seem to be forgotten in society. We often show appreciation to people we see every day but forget those who do not have the privilege of the freedom we have,” she said.

She added that the firm decided to extend kindness to the inmates as part of its commitment to humanitarian service.

Salaudeen also prayed for both Muslims and Christians observing fasting at the correctional facility, asking God to accept their sacrifices as acts of worship.

Receiving the delegation, the Muslim Chaplain at the centre, Balogun Badrudeen Adesina, commended the firm for the visit and explained the role of the Nigerian Correctional Service in reforming inmates.

He said correctional facilities were formerly known as prisons because they were designed mainly for punishment, but the system had evolved into institutions focused on rehabilitation and reintegration.

Adesina added that the centre also operates an aftercare programme aimed at guiding former inmates after their release to ensure successful reintegration into society.
