A new sports media platform, First Daily Sports, has been launched, with its promoters saying it will focus on sports coverage driven by fan perspectives.

The platform, an offshoot of First Daily News, is expected to focus on sports coverage with emphasis on fan perspectives and audience engagement.

According to its founding editor, Ben Ugbana, the initiative was conceived from years of observing how sports stories are reported and how supporters interact with the game beyond match results.

“For me, it’s simple, no fans, no game. You can talk about scores and transfers all day, but the passion, the arguments, the excitement, that’s what really drives the game.

“We are not just looking at what happened, but how it affects the fans and why it matters to them. That’s the difference we are bringing," Ugbana said.

Ugbana noted that the platform will cover football, athletics, basketball, tennis, Olympic sports, disability sports, table tennis and combat sports, with attention on Nigerian athletes and domestic competitions.

He stated that platform will also feature commentary, interviews, and a weekly video podcast that will focus on trending issues and conversations within the sports community.

Ugbana stated that the team would combine fast-paced reporting with deeper storytelling, adding that the goal is to create content that feels closer to how fans actually experience sports.
