Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday flagged off the distribution of palliatives worth N1.2 billion to Muslim households across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Flagging off the distribution in Kaduna, the First Lady said the exercise would be carried out through state coordinating committees already put in place to ensure effective and transparent delivery to beneficiaries.

She explained that the intervention forms part of the broader social support efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that ongoing reforms are designed to deliver sustainable benefits to Nigerians both in the immediate and long term.

The First Lady recalled that on December 23, 2025, similar palliatives were distributed to Christian communities across Northern Nigeria, stressing that the current exercise was to extend the same gesture to Muslim faithful in the spirit of equity, inclusiveness, and national cohesion.

She appealed to communities across the region to continue to live together in peace, love, and mutual respect, emphasising that unity remains the strongest pillar for overcoming the country’s challenges.

Mrs Tinubu also urged religious and community leaders to sustain their role in promoting harmony by preaching peace and tolerance, noting that a united Nigeria is better positioned to surmount any difficulty.

She expressed appreciation to Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and community representatives for their continued prayers and support for the administration, describing their contributions as vital to national stability.

The First Lady further commended the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, for his dedication and commitment in coordinating the programme alongside his team.

Formally flagging off the exercise, she announced the distribution of 100 trucks of rice valued at N1.2 billion, praying that the palliatives would bring relief and comfort to beneficiary households, while extending advance Eid al-Adha greetings to Muslim families and wishing them a season of joy, mercy, and abundance.

In his remarks, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, urged Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the success of the administration is inseparable from the progress and stability of the country.

He said the efforts of the First Lady and other stakeholders in supporting vulnerable citizens should be appreciated, noting that such interventions were not in vain but a demonstration of compassionate leadership at a critical time.

The governor emphasised that national unity remains non-negotiable, calling on citizens to close ranks and work collectively in the interest of Nigeria, adding that there can be no meaningful individual advancement without a stable and united nation.

Buni also highlighted the growing strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the ruling party continues to record electoral successes across all geopolitical zones, a development he said underscores the need for members to remain committed and united.

He commended the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her compassion and unwavering support for the President, particularly in championing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians, while also urging citizens to balance their rights with their civic responsibilities.
