First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday urged citizens to take full advantage of the newly launched website of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to engage constructively with government, seek information and contribute meaningfully to strengthening democratic institutions.
The First Lady made the call at the official unveiling of the Commission’s digital platform at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, an event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Mallam Sadiq Wanka, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, alongside other senior government officials and stakeholders.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy President of the Senate, Hajiya Laila Barau Jibrin, the First Lady emphasised that the success of the platform would depend largely on how effectively Nigerians utilise it to promote transparency, accountability and participatory governance.
“I also encourage Nigerians to take full advantage of this platform, engage constructively, seek information, and contribute to the strengthening of our democratic institutions,” she said.
She described the website as a significant milestone in the Commission’s institutional advancement and national cohesion, noting that it represents more than a technological upgrade but a bold commitment to embracing the demands of governance in a digital age.
According to her, the platform will serve as a vital interface between the Commission and the Nigerian people by providing timely access to information, streamlining administrative processes and creating a transparent channel for engagement.
She added that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places premium on innovation, digital transformation and inclusive governance as drivers of national development.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Vice President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, represented by Mallam Sadiq Wanka, commended the leadership of the Commission for embracing innovation as a tool for national cohesion and institutional efficiency.
“This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to leveraging technology to strengthen governance systems, promote fairness, and ensure that opportunities are equitably distributed across the federation”, he said.
Earlier, Akume described the unveiling as a strategic milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing pursuit of equity, transparency and inclusive governance, stressing that the FCC occupies a critical position in the country’s constitutional framework.
He noted that the Commission’s mandate to ensure fair and equitable representation across Nigeria’s diverse federation remains both a legal obligation and a moral imperative necessary for national unity, stability and trust in government.
“The principle of federal character is fundamental to reinforcing citizens’ confidence that the Nigerian state belongs to all, irrespective of geography, ethnicity or creed,” he said.
The SGF urged the Commission to deploy the website as a dynamic governance tool capable of deepening transparency, improving service delivery and strengthening accountability through real-time access to data, guidelines and measurable outcomes.
He further charged the Commission to adopt data-driven decision-making, publish compliance records in an open and verifiable manner and position itself as a credible repository of disaggregated data across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Akume also called for the deployment of digital tools to enhance regulatory oversight, enabling proactive and predictive governance that can identify imbalances early and prevent systemic inequities.
On citizen engagement, he stressed the importance of developing robust, user-friendly feedback mechanisms, complaint channels and public education resources to encourage participation, particularly among youths, civil society organisations and the private sector.
In her welcome address, Executive Chairman of the FCC, Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, described the website as a landmark achievement in the Commission’s efforts to modernise its operations and align with global best practices.
She said the platform would serve as a unified and accessible hub for information on policies, recruitment processes, compliance guidelines and official activities, while significantly improving communication between the Commission, MDAs and the public.
Omidiran added that the digital transformation would enhance institutional visibility, operational efficiency and accountability, while providing stakeholders with a transparent and structured channel for engagement.
She noted that for MDAs, the platform would serve as a reliable reference point for compliance monitoring and coordination, while offering researchers and policymakers access to credible institutional data.
“This milestone represents not just a technological advancement but a reaffirmation of our commitment to fairness, equity and balanced representation in the distribution of public opportunities,” she said, assuring that the Commission would continue to upgrade the platform in line with evolving demands.

“The House of Representatives recognises this initiative as a critical step toward strengthening transparency and accountability in public service,” Hon. Wase said.
“Digital platforms such as this will not only enhance oversight and compliance but also promote equitable access to opportunities, which lies at the heart of the Federal Character principle.
“We commend the leadership of the Commission for aligning its operations with global best practices and for demonstrating that governance can be both inclusive and technology-driven.”
