This shift is reshaping travel, cutting red tape and replacing long embassy queues with streamlined online approvals. Immigration processes that once took weeks or months are now completed within days—or even hours—driven by automation and improved inter-agency coordination.
For tourists, investors, and business travellers, the impact is immediate. Faster processing times reduce uncertainty, lower travel costs, and make last-minute planning more feasible. Several countries have also integrated AI-backed verification systems to speed up background checks and document screening.
Against this backdrop, a select group of destinations stands out for speed and reliability. These countries consistently deliver among the quickest visa approvals on the continent, offering travellers a smoother, more predictable entry process.
1. Seychelles
Approval Time: 12–24 Hours
Seychelles remains the benchmark for seamless entry. While technically visa-free for all nationalities, travellers must obtain a mandatory Digital Travel Authorisation (DTA) before departure.
Applications are completed via the official “Seychelles E-Border” platform. Most approvals are issued within 12 hours, though authorities advise applying at least 24 hours before travel. The standard processing fee is about €10.
2. Benin
Approval Time: 24–48 Hours
Benin has emerged as one of West Africa’s most accessible destinations, driven by an efficient e-Visa system.
The process is fully digital, requiring only a passport scan and a recent photograph. Although the official processing window is 48 hours, many applicants receive approval within 24 hours. A Visa on Arrival is available, but the e-Visa is strongly recommended to avoid delays at Cotonou Airport.
3. Kenya (eTA)
Approval Time: 72 Hours (3 Working Days)
Kenya replaced its traditional visa regime with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system in 2024, streamlining entry for tourists and business travelers.
Applicants submit basic travel and accommodation details through the official portal. Processing typically takes three working days. While faster approvals are possible, authorities recommend applying at least two weeks ahead to mitigate unforeseen delays.

4. Rwanda
Approval Time: 3 Days (or Instant on Arrival)
Rwanda continues to lead Africa’s open-border policy with a flexible dual-entry system.
Travellers may apply online via the IREMBO platform, with approvals usually granted within three days. Alternatively, a 30-day visa is issued on arrival at entry points, including Kigali International Airport, often within 20 minutes upon payment of the $50 fee.
5. Malawi
Approval Time: 2–3 Days
Malawi has expanded its Visa on Arrival policy as of February 24, 2026, but its e-Visa platform remains the faster and more reliable option.
The application process is straightforward, with a high approval rate for complete submissions. Processing typically takes 48 to 72 hours, which is faster than on-arrival procedures at major entry points such as Lilongwe International Airport.
