The Lagos State Government has announced the start of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for April 25.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab announced the details in a statement on Wednesday.
Officials expect full participation from residents, including cleaning surroundings and proper waste disposal.

The government said sanitation is everyone’s responsibility and called on citizens to take charge of their immediate environment.

Here are five things to know about the re-launched monthly sanitation exercise:
1. Start date and time: The exercise begins Friday, April 25, 2026. It will hold every last Saturday of the month from 6:30 am to 8:30 am.
2. Movement restriction: Movement will be restricted during the two-hour window. Residents are expected to stay home and clean their immediate surroundings.

3. Symbolic launch already held: The state held a symbolic launch of the programme along the Mushin–Agege Motor Road corridor on March 14 before the full rollout.
4. Why it stopped: Lagos suspended monthly sanitation in November 2016 after a court ruled that restricting movement during the exercise was unlawful.
5. Purpose: The exercise aims to promote environmental cleanliness and hygiene. Residents will clean their homes, drains, and surroundings within the designated period.
