A former Minister of State for Health and later Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, on Saturday formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Hong announced his exit at a ceremony in his ward in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, where he was received by officials of the APC.
He described the PDP as a “sinking ship,” stating that remaining in the party would amount to political self-destruction.
He disclosed that consultations were ongoing to mobilise PDP officials and other key figures across the 226 wards in the state to join the APC. According to him, several members of the opposition party are preparing to defect in the coming weeks.
Hong said he and other new entrants would work with existing party structures to secure victory for the APC at all levels in the next general elections.
In a goodwill message at the event, the Adamawa State APC Chairman, Idris Shuaibu, welcomed Hong into the party and urged him to deploy his political experience and influence to strengthen the APC in the state.
