Sugarland Charity Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has donated 100 desks and benches to schools in Finima, Bonny Island of Rivers State, as part of its support to improve learning conditions and encourage school attendance in the area.
The donation was presented by the Chairman, Board of Trustees of Sugarland Charity Foundation, Utitofon Edoho, during the 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the organisation at Finima, Bonny Island.
Edoho said the organisation had executed projects in different parts of the country and decided to donate benches to public schools in Finima as part of its investment in educational development in the country.
Edoho urged members of the organisation to continue to invest more in charity work, saying the benefits remained overwhelming.
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Amadabo of Finima, Aseme Se Alabo, Dr. Dagogo Brown, represented by the Secretary, Finima Divisional Council of Chiefs, Alabo Brown, lauded Sugarland Charity Foundation for their gesture to donate furniture to schools in Finima.
He said the gift would be put to good use by the beneficiaries.
Earlier, in her welcome remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sugarland Charity Foundation, Mrs. Emem Creativity, thanked Board of Trustees and members of the organisation for their steadfastness and compassion for selfless services through outreach programmes, support initiatives and community interventions.
She noted that the organisation would continue to pursue its mission of supporting communities and vulnerable people through charity.
She said: “Your presence here is a powerful reminder that the work of compassion, service and community development is never done alone. It is always strengthened by people who care enough to show up, to give, and to believe in the possibility of a better society.
“As the Chief Executive Officer of Sugarland Charity Foundation, I am truly honoured to stand before such a remarkable gathering of individuals who share a common vision - a vision of hope, empowerment and meaningful impact in the lives of those who need it most.
“Over the past year, our foundation has continued to pursue its mission of supporting communities and vulnerable people through charity. Through our outreach programmes, support initiatives, health interventions and community empowerment efforts, we have been able to touch lives and restore hope where it was fading. Our slogan, ‘Love Lives Here’, is a reminder that the world can be much better when love thrives.
Mrs David disclosed that the achievements recorded by the organisation in the past five years came from personal sacrifices from Board of Trustees and members and demanded more collaboration to impact society positively.
She said: “Today, the story of Sugarland Charity Foundation is not simply about programmes, communities or numbers. It is about people. It is about the young child who can go to school and find comfort in the learning environment, because someone cared. It is about communities that now feel seen, heard and valued. It is about you and me who have made our every endeavour and project possible over the years.
“It is very important to note, that none of these achievements would have been possible without the commitment and sacrifices of our board members, the dedication of our administrators, the generosity of every partner right here and those who for one reason or the other couldn’t make it today, and also the trust of the communities we serve. So to each and every one of you, I extend my deepest appreciation.
“Tonight’s Annual General Meeting provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the journey so far- to celebrate the milestones we have reached, review the impact of our activities, and openly discuss the direction of the foundation moving forward. It is also a moment to strengthen our shared commitment to transparency, accountability and purposeful service to charity.’’
The CEO posited that the organisation would continue to grow and deepen their impact through continued collaboration, innovation and compassion.
She said: “As we look to the future, we remain determined to expand our reach and deepen our impact. The challenges within our communities are still significant, but so too is our resolve. With continued collaboration, innovation and compassion, I am confident that Sugarland Charity Foundation will continue to grow as a force for positive change”.
