The Pink Fleur Foundation has urged government at all levels to prioritise the growth of the creative industry and protect green spaces, describing both as key to innovation, mental wellbeing and sustainable livelihoods.

The call was made by the founder, Zainab Salihijo, during the organisation’s art and photography exhibition held in Abuja under the theme, “Change Your Story.”

She encouraged policymakers to expand their view on employment and economic growth by recognising the creative sector as a viable and impactful career path.

Salihijo said that as the world continues to change, more Nigerians can realise their potential if they are supported to explore non-traditional careers.

Drawing from her personal journey, she explained that her shift from biotechnology and public health into art shows the opportunities available in the creative space.

She also expressed concern over the gradual loss of green areas in the Federal Capital Territory, mentioning places like Jabi Lake Park as once-thriving environments that inspired artistic work but are now under threat.

According to her, such spaces are important not only for creativity but also for mental health and overall wellbeing.

She stressed the need to preserve outdoor spaces, noting that many people rely on nature for inspiration, clarity and emotional balance.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the exhibition, Salihijo explained that the works displayed were influenced by her decision to take daily walks throughout 2025—an experience she described as life-changing and central to her artistic journey.

The exhibition featured unique photographs taken in different locations, including Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

The theme,“Change Your Story,” was aimed at encouraging people to embrace growth and pursue their goals without fear of societal judgment.

Also speaking at the event, a representative of the United States Embassy in Abuja, Duca,  commended the exhibition for its depth and visual storytelling, noting that the works show strong perspective and highlight the importance of human connection and self-reflection.

The envoy added that storytelling remains a powerful tool for building relationships and encouraging collaboration, both locally and globally.

In his remarks, Tunde Imane of the PAGED Initiative pointed out the exhibition’s social impact, noting that proceeds from selected artworks, including scarves, are being used to support women in underserved communities.

He cited the case of a physically challenged woman seeking further education, explaining that the funds raised would help her achieve her academic goals.

He called for more government support for vulnerable groups through inclusive policies and targeted programmes.

Similarly, Maria Kwaji described the exhibition as impressive, commending the quality of the artworks and the blend of creativity with social impact. However, she noted that appreciation for art remains low in Nigeria and called for increased awareness and stronger institutional support for local artists.
