Four persons have died and eight injured in an accident in front of Christopher University, Mowe on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command’s  Public Relations Officer, Mr Afolabi Odunsi, who confirmed the deaths in a statement yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital said the accident, which involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL 789 YL, occurred at 1: 30 a.m. on Sunday.

He said 13 persons were involved in the accident: 11 males and two females.

Odunsi explained: “Eight persons sustained injuries, including seven adult males and one adult female, while four adult males lost their lives in the crash.’’

He also said an investigation indicated that the accident was caused by a burst tyre and speed violation, which made the driver lose control of the vehicle.

He said the FRSC rescue operatives from the Mowe Unit Command arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and carried out rescue operations.

The spokesman added that the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital for treatment, while bodies of the dead were deposited at the Idera morgue.

He said the vehicle and belongings of the passengers recovered had been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Redeemed Police Station.

Odunsi said the state Sector Commander, Mr Akinwunmi Fasakin, commiserated with the families of the deceased.

He urged motorists to obey speed limits and ensure their tyres were in good condition.
