Four passengers died and four others were injured after a commercial mini-bus collided with an articulated truck on the Lekki Epe Expressway, Lagos at the weekend.

The crash, which occurred opposite Beechwood, Shapati inward Ajah, prompted an emergency response from officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other rescue agencies.

Authorities said the accident involved a HOWO truck with registration number KNN 313 YL and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus popularly known as Korope.

Preliminary findings indicated that the driver of the articulated truck lost control.The truck veered across the carriageway and rammed into the oncoming commercial.

The impact killed the four male passengers. The four occupants of the bus, two men and women, sustained severe fracture injuries after being trapped in the wreckage.

General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, expressed grief over the loss and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims. He said his men rescued the trapped victims from the mangled vehicle.

The injured were taken to Hamon Royal Hospital for treatment while the deceased were evacuated to the Shency Hospital morgue by an ambulance belonging to the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force from the Elemoro Police Division maintained order at the scene and secured the area during the rescue. Investigations have begun to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
