Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector has trained its Special Marshals on financials at the second quarter workshop held in Ketu, themed, “Enhancing financial efficiency, accountability and transparency for Special Marshals”

Those who attended included state executives, unit coordinators, unit treasurers, and financial secretaries.

The Coordinator of Special Marshals, Dr Olabisi Dennis, said the training was aimed at enhancing the efficiency and productivity of the officers.

He noted that financial accountability and transparency are the backbone of any credible and effective organisation.

He said within the Special Marshals structure, “Unit Treasurers and Financial Secretaries handle financial documentation while State Coordinator and the Unit Coordinators provide oversight and ensure compliance with laid-down standards and policies. However, to achieve excellence, these roles must not operate in isolation. There must be synergy, clarity, and a shared understanding of financial responsibilities.”

He said the training was designed to strengthen financial management capacity of unit treasurers/financial secretaries; to promote transparency and accountability in dealings;  introduce modern financial tools for efficient record keeping; and improve leadership oversight by Unit Coordinators, among others.

The Lagos State Sector Commander, FRSC, Ganiyu Kehinde Hamzat, said the theme was not just relevant but critical to the growth and effectiveness of FRSC operations.

Hamzat, who was represented by the Sector Head of Operations, Deputy Corps Commander Emma Fekoya, added that Special Marshals have over the years played a significant role in supporting traffic management and road safety enforcement across the nation.

“However, with this responsibility comes the need for strong accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct. These principles are essential to ensure that all volunteer officers uphold the highest standards of “integrity, discipline, and professionalism” especially in the discharge of duties that align closely with those of regular marshals.

He said effective accountability structures are necessary to protect and preserve the image of the Corps, and prevent any form of  misconduct.

Hamzat urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in their work.

The Zone RS2 Commander, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Matthew Olonisaye, who was represented by Zonal Legal Officer, CC Bonaventure Nnamani and the Zone’s Coordinator of Special Marshals, Pastor Olusegun Akintan, appreciated the FRSC officers for their dedication.

They also urged the participants to make use of the training to create more understanding about financial management, strengthen internal controls, and reinforce accountability mechanisms within their respective units.

The event featured a presentation of generating sets and other office equipment for efficient productivity at Sector’s office of Special Marshals.
