The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, has vowed to ensure an end to avoidable crashes at black spots across the state.

Sector Commander, Bridget Asekauno, gave the assurance while leading a joint road audit to a black spot along Agulu Lake in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, where four female burial returnees lost their lives Friday night.

She said the tour was necessitated by four consecutive crashes at the same spot, resulting in the loss of eleven lives within one month.

According to her, the tour was in line with the Corps' strategic goal of reducing road traffic crashes and engaging stakeholders in road safety activities. Asekhauno expressed worry over the frequent occurrence of RTC at the same spot.

The Sector Commander condemned the reckless attitude of some drivers, which led to avoidable road traffic crashes despite defects in the road's structural design.

She commiserated with the families of the victims and the community, pointing out places that require road infrastructure and possible barricades as temporary measures to the menace, pending a permanent solution.

Member representing Anaocha Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi, condemned the frequent crashes and commiserated with her people.

She promised to liaise with the State Government regarding the possible redesign of the road and the lake.

On his part, Okonkwo Emeka-Konti, Director of the Anambra Road Traffic Management Authority, ordered the immediate installation of the recommended road furniture and that work should commence immediately.

Stanley Enike, Representative of the Commissioner for Works and Chief Civil Engineer, Ministry of Works, promised to start work immediately to implement all decisions reached: barricade the road and install rubble strips pending a permanent solution to expand the bridge.

The community leaders appreciated the Sector Commander for her efforts in ensuring safety in their communities and the Corps' quick response during emergencies.
