To give his administration a new lease of life, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara yesterday dissolved the Executive Council.
The governor’s action came the same day The Nation reported that Fubara was set to dissolve his exco in line with the new peace deal to end the political crisis rocking the state.
The governor also appointed Onwuka Nzeshi as Chief Press Secretary (CPS). He replaces Nelson Chukwudi.
A statement by Nzeshi said: “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
“His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council wishing them the best in their future endeavours”.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday night met with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, Fubara and some leaders from the state in Aso Rock to find a solution to the political crisis rocking the state.
It was the second time the president intervened . The first was after the lifting of the six months emergency rule clamped on the state.
A source informed The Nation that the embattled Governor Fubara followed Wike to his Guzape, Abuja home, after the Sunday night Villa meeting.

Fubara was said to have begged the minister, vowing never to disrespect him again.
On Wednesday, sources said that the governor hinted at the exco members’ impending sack at a meeting with them on Tuesday evening, a day after the new truce deal was sealed in the presence of President Tinubu at a meeting in Abuja.
Fubara was said to have decided to fully implement all the peace agreements, including starting on a new slate to permanently end the hostilities between him and Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, who is backed by the House of Assembly.
The Nation gathered that after the dissolution, the governor would send a new list of would-be commissioners to the Martin Amaewhule-led Assembly for screening and confirmation.
A source in the Assembly, who spoke in confidence, said the governor would meet with the lawmakers to review and finalise the list.
“The governor is expected to meet with the lawmakers in one of the elders’ residences in Port Harcourt. This meeting will be held either at the residence of OCJ Okocha or Chief Ferdinand Alabraba.”
“It is after the meeting that the governor will officially forward his list to the Assembly. This new development may happen between Thursday and Monday,” the source said.
Most of the commissioners, who attended the meeting where the governor reportedly informed them ahead of his action, declined to speak on their impending sack.
“I was at the meeting, but I can’t speak about it because I don’t speak for the government,” one of them said.
In return for Fubara’s fidelity to the agreement, the lawmakers are expected to terminate the impeachment process initiated against him and his deputy.
