Nigeria international striker Alex Iwobi produced a moment of magic yesterday at the Craven Cottage to inspire Fulham to a 2-1 victory, a result that leaves 16th -placed Tottenham Hotspur facing the very real prospect of a historic relegation.

While the win bolsters Fulham’s European ambitions, it condemns Spurs to their 10th consecutive Premier League match without a victory. The North London giants now sit just four points above the drop zone with only 10 games remaining in a season that has turned into a fight for survival.

The tone was set just seven minutes in. Fulham’s Harry Wilson broke the deadlock from close range after Spurs failed to clear their lines under heavy pressure.

The goal was not without controversy; Tottenham defenders vehemently appealed for a foul, claiming Radu Dragusin had been shoved by Raul Jimenez in the build-up. However, following a lengthy VAR review, the contact was deemed "insufficient," allowing the goal to stand and leaving the visitors shell-shocked.

While Wilson provided the opener, it was Alex Iwobi who stole the headlines. In the 34th  minute, the Super Eagles midfielder collected the ball in a pocket of space and unleashed a ferocious long-range strike. The ball cannoned off the inside of the far post and into the net, leaving Guglielmo Vicario static. The goal marked Iwobi’s growing importance under Marco Silva, as he dictated the tempo of the first half against a disjointed Spurs midfield.

Igor Tudor, searching for his first points as Tottenham manager, turned to his bench at half-time, introducing Mathys Tel and Richarlison. The changes sparked life into a side that failed to record a single shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.

The pressure eventually told in the 66th  minute when Richarlison rose highest to head home a pinpoint cross, handing Spurs a lifeline. Despite a frantic final ten minutes and several goal-mouth scrambles, Fulham’s defense—led by fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey—held firm to secure the three points.

Fulham’s  coach Marco Silva praised his side’s upward trajectory  as their back-to-back wins lift the Cottagers to ninth place, keeping them firmly in the hunt for a European spot.

“I believe the three points clearly we deserved,” Silva said. “In terms of the score, it should be different with the amount of chances that we created.”

He continued: “Of course, first half, the beginning of the game, we were clinical, ruthless. We created and we punished them.

“But the number of moments that we had seconds half to score, clear chances to score the third goal and kill completely the game, and we didn't. That is the reality.

“And you know, anytime at the level that we are playing, with the individual quality on the other side, they can punish you, which is what Richarlison did in that moment.”
