Many Nigerian celebrities have gone beyond their niche to serve in important government roles.

Many of these celebrities especially entertainers have crossed from the stage and screen into public service.

In the past, politics was largely dominated by full-time politicians, businessmen, or ex-military generals. Today, quite a number of Nigerian celebrities are getting involved.

As we approach the 2027 general election, there are some public figures in entertainment sector and socialite space who will be contesting elective positions at the polls.

These celebrities are no strangers to politics. For years, they have used their influence to shape public perception. 

In no particular order, they are as follows:

1. Seyi law - The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa appointed popular comedian Oluseyi Aletile, also known as Seyi Law, as his Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment and Tourism.

2. Cute Abiola - Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq appointed Cute Abiola as Special Assistant on Creative Industries.

3. Eniola Badmus - She serves as Special Assistant on Social Events and Public Hearings to the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

4. Xxssive - Eseoghene Obire popularly known as Xxssive was appointed as the Governor of Delta State’s SSA on New Media.

5. Mercy Johnson - Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, appointed Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

6. Cubana Chief Priest - Cubana Chief Priest was appointed as Imo State governor’s Special Adviser on Social Media Influence and Social Events Management.⁣

7. Laide Bakare - Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke appointed Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare as his senior special assistant on entertainment, art, culture and tourism.

8. Davido - In October 2025, the Osun State Government appointed the singer as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

9. Desmond Elliot - Elected in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC),  represents Surulere Constituency 1 and is now serving his third term.

10. Tuface Idibia - In April 2025, he was named Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach to the Benue State Government.

11. Ali Nuhu - In early 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed him as Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), the government agency responsible for promoting and regulating the movie industry.

12. Harrysong - Harrison Tare Okiri, also known as Harrysong, was been named the Executive Assistant on Entertainment to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

13. Hilda Dokubo - Veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo was appointed as the chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State.
