In Nigeria, there are numerous ethnicities, and each has a unique traditional system of leadership.

Distinctively, the Yoruba tribe is home to highly revered traditional monarchs. These kings play an important part in society, and their influence is undeniable.

This ranking below reflects the traditional territorial spread of the major Yoruba kingdoms whose domains later became modern Local Governments.

Here's the list:

1. Olubadan of Ibadan — 11 LGAs

2. Awujale of Ijebu — 6 LGAs

3. Owa Obokun of Ijesaland — 6 LGAs

4. Soun of Ogbomoso — 5 LGAs

1. Olubadan of Ibadan — The Olubadan of Ibadan holds traditional authority over the largest number of Local Governments in Yorubaland.

Local Governments: Ibadan North, Ibadan North-East, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan South-East, Ibadan South-West, Akinyele, Lagelu, Egbeda, Ona-Ara, Oluyole, and Ido.

2. Awujale of Ijebuland — The Awujale of Ijebuland presides over one of the most organized traditional kingdoms.

Local Governments: Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu North, Ijebu North-East, Ijebu East, Odogbolu, Ogun Waterside.

3. Owa Obokun of Ijesaland — The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland leads the historic Ijesa kingdom.

Local Governments: Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Oriade, Obokun.

4. Soun of Ogbomoso — The Soun of Ogbomoso rules one of Yorubaland’s most respected warrior-founded kingdoms.

Local Governments: Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Surulere, Ogo-Oluwa.

5. Alaafin of Oyo — The Alaafin of Oyo remains the symbol of the historic Oyo Empire’s political legacy.

Local Governments: Oyo East, Oyo West, Atiba, Afijio.

6. Ooni of Ife — The Ooni of Ife is recognized globally as the spiritual father of the Yoruba race.

Local Governments: Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ife South.

7. Alake of Egbaland — The Alake of Egbaland leads the historic Egba kingdom.
