Following Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's defection and the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s takeover of Adamawa State, only a handful of states remain outside the ruling party’s control.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) now governs just three states: Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara.

Beyond the PDP, a few states remain under other opposition parties. Anambra State is governed by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abia State is controlled by the Labour Party, while Osun State remains under the Accord Party.
