Former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, demonstrated political loyalty and grassroots strength as he mobilised supporters to welcome President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Gateway International Cargo Airport in Ogun State.

The mobilisation, which drew participation from grassroots supporters in key communities, was interpreted by political observers as a strategic signal of alignment with the President’s leadership and reform agenda ahead of 2027 electoral cycle.

Lemo, present among top national and state dignitaries at the high-profile event, lauded Tinubu for supporting realisation of the Airport project, describing it as a transformative economic asset for Ogun State and Nigeria.

“This project represents progress, opportunity, and a new economic pathway for our people. It will create jobs, boost commerce and position Ogun as a strategic hub for investment”, Lemo said.

He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as visionary leadership, while also acknowledging past administrations for laying the groundwork that made the project possible.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun deserves commendation for his commitment to legacy infrastructure. We must also recognise contributions of past leaders whose foundations have made these interventions achievable”, he added.

Reaffirming his support for the President, Lemo described Tinubu’s reforms as bold and necessary, expressing confidence they would deliver long-term economic transformation for the country.

“Mr. President’s reform agenda requires courage and consistency. I am fully supportive of efforts aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and prosperity”, he said.

Lemo’s actions at the event fortify his emergence as a loyal political ally of the President and a disciplined stakeholder in the ruling party, positioning himself as a credible force in Ogun’s evolving political landscape.

His strategic presence and mobilisation effort are also seen as part of broader positioning ahead of 2027 governorship race, where alignment with national leadership and grassroots acceptance are critical factors.

Lemo also appreciated his supporters and the people for their orderly conduct and cooperation during the President’s visit.

“I thank our supporters and the people of Ogun State for their peaceful and respectful conduct. Your cooperation reflects the true character of our state”, he said.

Inauguration of Gateway International Cargo Airport will significantly enhance logistics, trade and industrial development in Ogun, further reinforcing its position within Nigeria’s economic corridor.
