GAWIM 2026 summit to spotlight women’s leadership in African healthcare

The Excellence in Medicine (EIM) Ladies Network is set to host the 2026 Global Africa Women in Medicine (GAWIM) Summit, following the success of its maiden edition held in 2025, at Ikeja, Lagos.
The summit is scheduled for March 21, 2026, at Park Inn by Radisson in Abeokuta, Ogun State, with the theme: “Sustaining Leadership: From Practice to Boardroom.”
Founder of the GAWIM Summit and the EIM Ladies Network, Dr. Olajumoke Ladapo, said the gathering aims to strengthen leadership capacity among women in the medical profession while advancing healthcare development across Africa.

According to Ladapo, the initiative seeks to support the next generation of female doctors with mentorship, professional tools and international networks needed to shape healthcare systems globally.
“We are redefining what leadership in medicine looks like—together. Our goal is to equip the next generation of female doctors with the tools, mentorship and global networks necessary to transform healthcare systems globally,” she said.

She noted that the summit goes beyond a conventional conference, describing it as a platform designed to bridge the gap between clinical practice and executive leadership.
The event will focus on empowering African women in medicine to take on leadership roles in health administration, academia and corporate governance.

Several prominent figures in the health sector are expected to speak at the summit. Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, will serve as the Chief Keynote Speaker, while the Chief Executive Officer of JBS Gerontology Center and Medicare Services, Dr. OluToyin Akande-Ajala, will chair the event.
The Chief Medical Director of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, will deliver a keynote address, while the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, will participate as Special Guest Speaker.
Other speakers include Dr. Moyosore Taiwo Makinde, Dr. Olusegun Adebisi, Dr. Oge Ilegbune and Dr. Francisca Inofomoh.
Organisers said the programme will feature panel discussions and networking sessions aimed at addressing systemic challenges within the healthcare sector and encouraging greater female participation in decision-making roles.
A special segment of the summit will also honour African women who have made notable contributions to healthcare innovation and public health.
The organisers said the summit is expected to provide a platform for professional development and collaboration among female medical practitioners across the continent.
