Leaders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry Division of Lagos State yesterday assured Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat of their support to become the next governor.

Also, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has promised to back Hamzat’s aspiration to pick APC’s governorship ticket in Lagos.

They spoke in Lagos yesterday during consultation visits by Dr Hamzat and his team.

Gbajabiamila, former House of Representatives Speaker, said Hamzat was good and fit to be the party’s candidate in the 2027 governorship election.

He said the state was safe with Hamzat as the governor.

The aspirant visited Gbajabiamila in his Surulere, Lagos home to seek his support.

The Chief of Staff, testifying to the capacity and competence of Hamzat, said there was no doubt  Lagos would be in safe hand with him as the governor.

“Dr. Hamzat you’re a man of honour and it shows by not taking things for granted, judging by this consultation move. But I am saying it publicly that you can take me for granted because I have confidence in your ability and capacity. So, take my support for granted. My constituency, Surulere, is for you and Lagos is for you,” Gbajabiamila added.

In his introductory speech, a member of Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, informed the host the extent of consultation made so far.

“I can confidently tell the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu that the level of endorsement has been overwhelming.”

Among those in the entourage were Secretary of GAC, Alhaji Muti Are, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Bode Oyedele, Adekunle Olayinka and Dr. Hakeem Shittu.

Others were Saheed Kekereekun, Dr. Jebe and  Rasaq Ajala, among others.

In Badagry, Hamzat was received by the party’s apex leaders, during which he unveiled Badagry’s chapter of City Boy Movement, a group advancing the political success of APC in Lagos and Nigeria.

The community leaders unanimously endorsed Hamzat’s aspiration.

Making specific requests on behalf of Badagry Local Government, Chairman of the group, Joseph Bamgbose, listed the needs to increase the senior staff cadre of Badagry indigenes in the civil service.

One of the traditional rulers, Oba Sejiro Olamilekan James, giving assurance of supporting Hamzat’s candidature, sought government’s assistance, saying it should complete their chalet, where people would be able to hold functions.

In his vote of thanks, Senator Solomon assured the political leaders that Hamzat-led government would look into their requests.
