Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Senator Barnabas Gemade, has urged husbands to avoid actions that could unsettle their wives, warning that such conduct can undermine the stability of marriages.

Gemade gave the advice on Saturday during the wedding ceremony of the daughter of the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Awuzie.

Congratulating the couple, he encouraged them to remain focused on the responsibilities ahead rather than the excitement surrounding the ceremony.

Addressing the groom, he noted that marriage requires commitment and understanding, stressing the importance of valuing one’s partner.

“You have not only found a beautiful wife, but one who is well-trained and well-groomed. The Bible says he who finds a wife finds a good thing, and what you have found today is of great value,” he said.

Gemade further reminded the couple that the success of their union depends on their mutual effort, adding that the presence of guests at the ceremony reflects the goodwill towards their families.

He advised them to remain grounded and committed to building their relationship, emphasising that marriage ultimately rests on the partnership between husband and wife.

The elder statesman urged the couple to approach their new life with a sense of purpose and responsibility, noting that a strong and harmonious home is built on respect, understanding, and shared values.

"None of us here is qualified to be part of this marriage. We can only be witnesses, which terminates today. After feasting and enjoying, leave this couple alone. It's no longer your business.

"Minor decisions you can take, including the type of food, clothes you like, but other decisions you must allow her to decide, including management of money, house to buy, children to have, among others.

"If you don't do that, I can assure you that your marriage will be like a boat on the water surface without settling. The worst thing that will happen to you is for your wife to wake up with a sad face. Don't ever make her unhappy."

The visibly excited Rector, and mother of the bride, Dr Awuzie, appreciated the guests who graced the occasion, praying God to grant them their heart's desires, especially those trusting him for similar blessings.

"I want my daughter and her husband to build their marriage on love, trust, and understanding. With these three virtues, the enemy and intruders will be far away from their marriage," she added.

Earlier in his homily at the church service, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, commended the couple for seeing the need for their union to be blessed by God before embarking on the journey.
