The Nigerian legal community will converge in Enugu on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, for the formal presentation of the maiden edition of the Nigerian Customary Courts of Appeal Law Reports, a publication expected to deepen jurisprudence and documentation of customary law across the country. The event is scheduled to hold at the Justice I.A. Umezuluike Auditorium, High Court Complex, Independence Layout, Enugu, with proceedings set to begin at 10 a.m.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, will serve as the chief host, underscoring the state’s institutional support for the development of legal scholarship and judicial practice. The chairman of the occasion will be Osita Ngwu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial District. A major highlight of the event will be the book review by George C. Nnamani, whose role as President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Enugu positions him at the centre of customary law adjudication in the state.

The ceremony is also expected to attract a cross-section of legal, political and traditional authorities. Among them is Lawrence Agubuzu, a former chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, who will attend as the royal father of the day. Also billed to grace the occasion are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, Osinachi Nnajieze, alongside his Ebonyi State counterpart, Ben Odoh.

The law report, published by Renaissance Law Publications Limited, is edited by legal scholar Agu Gab Agu, who serves as editor-in-chief. The publication marks a significant step toward strengthening the documentation and accessibility of customary court decisions, an area of Nigerian law that has historically suffered from limited reporting. Legal practitioners and scholars say the initiative could enhance consistency in judicial reasoning, promote legal certainty, and elevate the status of customary law within Nigeria’s broader legal system.
