Group to govt’s appointees: don’t forget others

The leadership of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has appealed to beneficiaries of the government’s appointments to extend “political patronage” and support to fellow members who are yet to be absorbed into the administration.

The group’s Director-General, Dr. Umar Tanko Yakasai, made the appeal in Abuja during the grand finale of the TSG’s free Ramadan Iftar feeding programme.

The event, which doubled as an inter-faith breaking of fast, brought together a diverse crowd of Christian and Muslim faithful, party stalwarts, and government appointees.

Yakasai urged those serving in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) that their positions should serve as conduits for empowering the base of the party.

Acknowledging the efforts of TSG founder, James Faleke, in securing roles for many Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) members, Yakasai noted that the “limited number” of official slots means not everyone can hold a title.

“One thing that all of us must remember is that we all cannot be appointed because of the limited number of appointive positions available in the government,” Yakasai stated.

“Those few of us that got appointed should do everything humanly possible to carry as many members of the support groups as they can along, to distribute patronage and support one another, as well as the President’s efforts to reward party faithful,” he added.

The event marked the end of a month-long humanitarian drive sponsored by Faleke, which provided daily food and drinks to residents across the FCT observing the Ramadan and Lent.

Yakasai lauded the “benevolent gesture,” noting that it allowed many who could not afford a meal to break their fast with “dignity and honor.”

Former federal lawmaker from Delta State, Mercy Almona-Isei, noted the “symbolic coincidence” of this year’s Christians and Muslim fasting.

“Without unity and peace, progress is impossible. Times are difficult all over the world, but because we have a man who is very focused, strong, and ready to do what others before him were unable to do, he has actually pulled us out of those issues. Now there is hope—and that’s the essence of Renewed Hope,” Almona-Isei said.

Almona-Isei called for a second term for the president, ‘’because he has done well and we should continue to support him to do more.”

The gathering, which also served as an early rallying point for President Tinubu’s future political ambitions saw speakers urging Nigerians to shun tribalism and religious bias to allow the administration’s reforms to take root.
