Engr. Femi Sanni, popularly known as Araba, received a formal endorsement for his governorship ambition on Friday from a youth coalition, in a development that points to shifting alignments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State.
The endorsement came from the Kwara Youth for Good Governance (KYFGG) during an event at the Arca Santa Event Centre in Ilorin, where attendance exceeded the venue's capacity, leaving some supporters and delegates outside.
Observers say the turnout and endorsement reflect a measure of support for Sanni among sections of the party's grassroots and stakeholder groups, though the broader contest remains in its early stages.
In his address, KYFGG convener Salman Idris said the group's decision was based on what he described as Sanni's record in business, youth development and humanitarian work, which he said aligns with the expectations of younger voters seeking greater involvement in the state's political process.
“We are no longer passive observers. This endorsement is based on evidence, not emotion, and reflects our belief that Engr. Sanni's track record speaks to the kind of leadership many young people want to see,” Idris said.
The group also pointed to Sanni's background in enterprise and job creation, as well as his involvement in grassroots sports development, as factors in its decision. It further cited his community interventions as evidence of an approach it considers inclusive.

The endorsement adds to expressions of support from some APC stakeholders and interest groups in recent weeks, contributing to speculation about Sanni's possible entry into the governorship race and its implications for internal party dynamics.
Analysts note that endorsements from youth groups could carry weight in a state with a growing young population, although their impact on the final outcome remains uncertain.
The group, in its closing remarks, called for an inclusive and consultative process within the APC, urging party leaders to consider competence and broad acceptability in selecting a candidate.
With political activity gradually building, Friday's event highlights early positioning ahead of the Kwara governorship race.
