Suspected kidnappers on Thursday killed a poultry farmer and her daughter during an attack on a farm in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The incident occurred at Igushin via Ala, where the assailants reportedly stormed the premises after scaling the perimeter fence.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, numbering about five, gained access to the poultry farm by scaling the fence before abducting three persons, including workers on the premises.

However, the bodies of the poultry owner and her daughter were later found within the facility, indicating they were killed during the attack.

"The attackers came in through the fence. They were about five in number and took three people away. Later, we found the woman who owns the poultry and her daughter dead," one of the eyewitnesses, who pleaded anonymity, said in a chat.

Security operatives were alerted, prompting a response from the Ondo State Police Command, which led to the rescue of two of the abducted victims.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, condemned the attack, describing it as heinous.

"The Ondo State Police Command strongly condemns the violent incident at Igushin via Ala, Akure, which led to the loss of two lives. While two victims were rescued through a coordinated operation, we express deep sorrow over the deaths recorded," he said.

Abayomi said security had been reinforced in the area, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information.

The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of the state, with residents calling for increased surveillance to prevent further attacks.
