The Ondo State Police Command has said a head injury sustained by a suspected bandit during a struggle with his victim played a key role in his arrest in Isua Akoko, Akoko Southeast Local Government Area of the state.

A spokesman for the Police in the state, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jimoh Abayomi, said this in a statement in Akure, the state capital.

Abayomi said the incident occurred last Friday, when a complaint was lodged by one Ahmadu at Isua Police Division that two young men who went to Ipesi Akoko for cattle rearing had gone missing, with one later unaccounted for.

Abayomi showed that the operatives launched an intelligence-led operation that led to the rescue of the kidnapped victim.

According to him, the victim narrated that he was abducted at night by three armed men and, during the attack, struggled with his captors and inflicted a head injury on one of them.

He said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation and was identified by the victim as one of his abductors.

“Acting swiftly on credible information obtained from the victim, operatives of the Isua Division mobilised and stormed Obasanjo Motor Park, Isua, about 0609hrs, where a suspicious individual with a visible head injury was apprehended

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of the kidnapping gang. The victim later positively identified the suspect, particularly noting the injury inflicted on him.

“The victim has since been taken to the hospital for medical attention, while the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the police spokesman said.

Abayomi added that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the response of operatives and support of residents, noting that credible intelligence remains vital to policing efforts.

The police, however, reiterated its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, urging the residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the securing agencies with timely and useful information.
