Traditional rulers, community leaders and women groups in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State have lauded Governor Peter Mbah for the building of a Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centre at Ogbaku and ongoing road projects spanning over 55 kilometres.
The commendation came during the governor’s quarterly supervisory visit to the facility, where he held an interactive session with stakeholders, including monarchs, youth groups, farmers and patients.
Stakeholders described Ogbaku health facility as a critical intervention that has improved access to quality health care in the area.
They said the extensive road construction across the council had improved connectivity and eased transportation challenges.
Speaking on behalf of Ogbaku community, a traditional ruler, Igwe M. O. Egbo, described the hospital as a “lifeline” for residents.

“On behalf of our people, we appreciate this laudable project. This hospital is a lifeline for us. We appeal for more health workers to ensure 24-hour services,” he said.
The Coordinating President-General of Awgu Local Government, Chief Collins Okere, said the facility fulfilled a long-standing dream of the people.
He said: “I inspected the hospital and must say it is well equipped with modern facilities. We will protect this investment and ensure it serves its purpose.”
Religious leaders also hailed the initiative, with Rev. Fr. Valentine Azubuike calling for adequate staffing, while Rev. Fr. Donald Okechukwu described the hospital as a divine intervention and urged the government to replicate such projects in neighbouring communities.
Women groups were emphatic in their support, with Awgu Women Leader, Mrs. Franscia Uzo, describing the facility as “life support” for women and children.
“This hospital has brought relief to our people. We are solidly behind your re-election in 2027,” she declared.
Stakeholders also highlighted the impact of the ongoing road projects, noting that improved access had boosted economic activities.
Chairman of the PDC, Sanitarian Chidiebere Okechukwu, commended other initiatives, including gratuity payments and smart schools.
Awgu Local Government Chairman, Uchenna Okolo, said the area had witnessed development under the current administration.
Governor Mbah said the visit was aimed at obtaining feedback to ensure the projects met the needs of the people.
He disclosed that 2,250 health workers were being recruited to ensure 24-hour operations across facilities.
The governor said the facilities were equipped with solar power, running water and modern systems, while reaffirming his commitment to equitable development across the state.
