An 18-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Enugu State for allegedly breaking into a woman's apartment through the ceiling and sexually assaulting her.
Chinedu Nkasiobi was apprehended by operatives attached to the Abakpa Police Division penultimate Friday following a complaint from the victim.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Enugu to mark his one year in office.
Giwa, who assumed duties on March 11 last year, said the Command had recorded several operational successes through proactive and intelligence-led policing while maintaining discipline and professionalism among officers.
He said the suspect was among the 39 individuals arrested by the Command within the past year over alleged rape or defilement offences.
The incident, according to Giwa, occurred on March 4, 2026 at Alulu-Nike in Enugu at about 1:20 p.m.

In another case, the police also arrested a 30-year-old suspect, Ikenna Ekesi, following a complaint involving alleged abuse of a minor in Mmaku community, Awgu Local Government Area.
The suspect was arrested on March 6, 2026 by operatives attached to the Awgu Police Division after a petition from the Enugu State Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development.
Preliminary investigations showed that the young girl, now 13 years old, had been living with the suspect's family while helping to care for a six-year-old child he also got out of wedlock and attending school.
"However, the suspect had carnal knowledge of the victim and subsequently returned her to her parents on the grounds that she was stubborn after putting her in the family way," the CP said.
Giwa said investigation into the matter was ongoing and assured that the suspect would face prosecution if found culpable.
He reiterated the Command's commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society and urged residents to promptly report suspected cases of abuse or violence to law enforcement agents.
