Media personality Chude Jideonwo has revealed that he is living with Tourette Syndrome, a condition he was diagnosed with in his late 20s.

In an interview with BBC News Africa, Jideonwo said he kept the diagnosis private for several years based on medical advice.

He explained that his doctor advised against public disclosure due to concerns about stigma, particularly within African societies.

Tourette Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental condition characterised by involuntary movements or sounds, commonly referred to as tics.

Jideonwo said he became fully aware of the condition in his late 20s, describing it as a neurological issue involving involuntary bodily responses.

He noted that the caution from his doctor influenced his decision to remain silent about the condition until now.

“When I was diagnosed, my doctor warned me not to talk about it in public, that people are going to judge me. Especially in Africa. I began to consciously notice Tourette's syndrome in my late 20s. Is a neurological condition where it feels like your body misfires,” he said.
