Actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed she underwent therapy following her role in the popular TV series "Wura" due to the emotional toll it took on her mental state.

The actress, who plays the powerful and ruthless Wura-Amoo Adeleke, said the intensity of the role lingered long after she left the set.

Speaking during a recent episode of Paul and Baaj, hosted by Paul Utomi and Baaj Adebule, Gomez stated that the character's mindset lingered, affecting her daily interactions, and prompted her husband to comment on the change in her attitude.

She said, “I had to do therapy after Wura because it was bad. I went back to my YouTube jobs… and I’m supposed to play the victim, and somebody’s talking to me, and I’m looking at the person like, ‘Do you know who I am?’ I heard people call me number one, I felt like I was Wura”.

Gomez emphasised that transitioning out of a character can be more challenging than assuming the role, particularly after an extended period.

“I always tell people… getting into a character is easier than getting out of a character, especially when you’ve played it for a long time,” she said.

She highlighted the importance of prioritising mental health, encouraging others to seek help when needed.

Wura, a Showmax series, has garnered attention for its gripping narrative and multi-dimensional characters.

The show, featuring Gomez as a respected businesswoman with a hidden, ruthless side, has resonated with audiences and earned praise for its portrayal of complex themes.
