Award-winning British rapper and singer Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu popularly known as Tinie Tempah has credited his Nigerian Igbo roots for his creative talent.

Tempah, in a video where he expressed pride in his Igbo heritage, citing notable figures like Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as examples of the tribe's exceptional achievements.

According to him, the Igbo tribe has a naturally creative spirit, pointing to the achievements of Achebe, a Booker Prize winner, and Adichie, a nominee, as examples of the tribe's exceptional talents.

He attributed his own talent and creativity to his Igbo heritage, emphasising the significance of his ancestry in shaping his artistic abilities.

“I am from the Igbo tribe and I do believe that there’s something very intrinsically creative about Igbo people.

“Growing up, I started to understand that a lot of Black authors from Nigeria, specifically the Igbo tribe, who have won the Bookerman Prize. That’s a global book award. The likes of Chinua Achebe, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, who was on Beyoncé’s album as well, have won that award.

“So, I think my talent and creativity has something to do with my heritage and lineage and origin. And that’s beautiful,” he stated.
