The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has advocated for mutual trust and collaboration between the media and the police.
He noted that only a genuine relationship, born of mutual respect and love for the country, would help achieve effective policing.
Disu made the call on Saturday during an interaction with Crime Reporters in Lagos.

Recalling his days as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Disu admitted to initial apprehension about the media, adding that he wondered how he would cope with it.
"But I said, I will face if and we called a meeting where I met everyone. I learnt a lot from the media. I bonded with you.
"I used to encourage police commanders serving with me to build sincere relationships with journalists. I advised my colleagues to build genuine friendships because media practitioners are human beings and will see if you're faking it.
"When I was Commander RRS, I came under a series of attacks, even by policemen. Some said I was doing eye service, but I did not see it that way. I saw it as an opportunity to express myself and my ideas of what policing should be,” said the IGP.
According to him, his policing approach was guided by a long-term vision, which he developed as a Cadet.
“As a Cadet, I had a picture of how I would act if I became Commissioner of Police. I also thought of what I would do if I became IG," said Disu, who thanked journalists for their unrelenting support and contributions through their reports, which were vital to policing efforts.
