The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for intelligence sharing and collaboration among Nigerian security agencies to tackle current security challenges effectively.

Disu said security agencies cannot operate in isolation, considering the daunting challenges facing the country at the moment.

He expressed the Nigeria Police Force's willingness to work seamlessly with other elite security institutions to sustain peace across the country.

The IGP made the remarks during an historic visit to the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Prof Ahmed Audi, at the Corps' headquarters in Abuja.

The IGP, accompanied by senior police officers, said the visit aimed to reaffirm and deepen the working relationship between the two elite security agencies.

Disu, the 23rd IGP, emphasized that the visit was a deliberate step toward strengthening existing collaborations. He noted that both agencies share the critical mandate of ensuring national security and must align their efforts to operate effectively and efficiently.

"We must encourage one another as we confront contemporary security challenges. We often fight difficult battles in demanding terrains; therefore, we must share intelligence and operate as a unified front to achieve lasting peace," IGP Disu stated.

In his remarks, the NSCDC boss reassured the IGP of the Corps' unwavering commitment to synergy and seamless collaboration. He highlighted that the Corps has a long-standing history of working alongside the Police and is ready to improve these processes to meet evolving security needs.

A statement from the Corps Spokesman, Babawale Afolabi, noted that the Commandant General expressed delight over the IGP's visit, describing it as encouraging.

The Commandant General underscored collaboration, cooperation, and coordination as the three pillars necessary for conventional security agencies to succeed.

He further urged the Nigerian citizenry to adopt a proactive stance on security, similar to the Sri Lankan model, in which citizens actively gather and share intelligence with security forces.

While top Management of the NSCDC and Principal Staff Officers of the Commandant General attended the meeting, the IGP was accompanied, amongst others, by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, and the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid.
