Speaking at the event, Oladunjoye said the initiative was designed to provide practical support to residents amid rising living costs and economic challenges, stressing that the empowerment programme was not a one-off gesture but part of a broader vision to build a sustainable and self-sufficient community.
“Today, we are not just distributing equipment and cheques; we are promoting real support that goes beyond today and builds a better tomorrow. These items are meant to provide relief and to show our people that they are not alone,” he said.

According to the chairman, 500 residents received a cash grant of N100,000 each, amounting to N50 million, while various empowerment tools were distributed to support small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship. The items included generators, deep freezers, standing hair dryers, baking ovens and business tools for 200 enterprising women.
He described the empowerment as a “hand up, not a handout,” noting that the goal was to turn modest capital into sustainable businesses capable of feeding families and strengthening the local economy.

Other achievements listed included financial assistance to community members and organisations, launch of environmental street marshals, declaration of zero tolerance for environmental nuisances, purchase of utility vehicles, and desilting of major drainages across Ikoyi and Obalende, including Banana Island, Adeyemi Lawson, Ajeniya, Ilu Drive, Lawrence, MacGregor, Thompson Avenue and Oyinkan Abayomi.
The chairman said solar streetlights were installed in Obalende communities including Ajeniya, Odo, Eleshi, Moshalashi and Toyan (Peragrino) Streets, as part of efforts to improve security and quality of life.
Calling on beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, Oladunjoye urged residents to remain united and supportive of one another, stressing that collective progress remained the foundation of sustainable development.
“When our people thrive, our neighbourhood grows and our nation prospers,” he said.
