Former Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission, Obunike Ohaegbu, at the weekend declared intention to contest Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat.
He said the decision, which he described as “difficult but deliberate,” was informed by extensive consultations with family members and political associates.
Speaking at his country home in Ebe, Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Ohaegbu, popularly called “Nwa Miss”, said his going to National Assembly under African Democratic Congress (ADC) was not for boreholes, streetlights or other small projects.
He said his mission was bigger—transformation of his constituency and Southeast at large, which he noted was driven by desire to provide effective representation for the constituency.
He listed projects he was championing as national coordinator of Southeast Patriots to include gas infrastructure to power industries across Southeast and functional eastern ports to decongest Lagos ports and boost regional trade.

“Other projects include dredging of River Niger to unlock economic potential, completion of Port Harcourt–Aba–Enugu–Maiduguri rail corridor.
“These are the real issues that will create jobs, empower our people and reposition our region economically,” he said.
Recounting his early life struggles, including losing his father shortly after birth and raised by his mother, who later became a teacher through intervention of a community leader, the lawmaker aspirant said the experience shaped his commitment to community service and people-oriented development.
He enumerated his track record, especially while at the Public Complaints Commission, including facilitating employment and opportunities for constituents.
He further referenced his involvement in community development initiatives, particularly through the Odi Mma Ukpor platform.
Ohaegbu reaffirmed his loyalty to ADC leadership, led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, as well as party’s endorsement of Peter Obi as its preferred presidential candidate in the Southeast.
While formally launching his campaign under the banner “Nwa Miss 2027”, the hopeful called for grassroots mobilisation, encouraging supporters to register with the party ahead of the general election.
